PROFILE

Marat Grigorian profile

Marat Grigorian is the Armenian-Belgian who knocked Superbon out in 29 seconds in 2018 and knocked Sitthichai out at ONE 165. A former Glory lightweight champion, he is 8-3 in ONE Championship and has twice challenged for its featherweight kickboxing world title.

Talin to Belgium

Born in Talin, Armenia on 29 May 1991, Grigorian moved to Europe as a child when his parents emigrated, and the family settled in Belgium. Action films took him into a gym; he won his first fight at twelve and soon moved to the Netherlands because there was nobody left to match him with at home.

He fought through K-1 and Glory, winning the Glory lightweight title, and joined ONE in 2020 as a champion from another promotion rather than a prospect starting again.

Twenty-nine seconds

The fight that made his name worldwide was a 29-second knockout of Superbon in 2018, before either man had signed with ONE. It is still the first thing mentioned whenever the two names appear together.

Two title shots in the hardest division in the sport

ONE's featherweight kickboxing division held Superbon, Sitthichai, Chingiz Allazov and Giorgio Petrosyan at the same time. Grigorian has challenged for its world title twice — losing a five-round decision to Superbon at ONE Lumpinee 58, and losing to Chingiz Allazov at ONE Fight Night 13, the only defence Allazov ever made.

His biggest win over a Thai fighter is a third-round knockout of Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong at ONE 165 in Tokyo, against a man who is almost never finished.

Thirty-five and still finishing people

He knocked Abdelali Sehidi out in round two at ONE Lumpinee 92, beat Rukiya Anpo on points at ONE 173, knocked Kaito out in 111 seconds at ONE Samurai 1 and beat Mamuka Usubyan on points at The Inner Circle 25.

He is 8-3 in the promotion with five finishes, a 63 percent rate, and all three of his losses are decisions — he has never been stopped there.
